Message to Our Supporters
After 12 years of active charity shop fundraising the Trustees of Withybush Hospital Cancer Day Unit Appeal plan to focus its efforts online in future to fundraise for the Pembrokeshire Haematology and Oncology Day Unit (PHODU).
Since we started direct fundraising in 2009 we have raised in excess of £500,000 and made a major donation of nearly £250,000 in 2017 to help create a "state of the art" cancer treatment facility at Withybush Hospital (Visit our CDU Images page). The facility now helps so many people here in Pembrokeshire and we are advised that the future of the Day Unit is very much secure going forward.
Trish George, who was responsible for establishing a small fundraising shop on behalf of the charity back in 2007 recently commented:
" When I opened our small charity shop at Riverside, Haverfordwest to support the staff and patients at the Cancer Day Unit in Withybush Hospital I never dreamed that we could achieve so much. But after twelve years we feel we now need to move in a new direction, hence the decision to close our shop on the 21st December 2019.
The shop has brought so much joy to so many, thanks to the fabulous volunteers who have been with us on our journey, and you,the fantastic Pembrokeshire public, who have supported us in so very many ways. I am so incredibly proud that we have raised half a million pounds to date and a huge amount of credit must go to Neil Evans, Managing Director of West Wales Properties who not only let us have our shop rent free, but has paid for most of the utility bills! It is because of his support that we have been able to donate 97p for every £1 we have raised over this time."
The Future
Through this website the charity will now focus its attention on keeping you up to date with the purchases it makes which supports cancer patients and the nursing team. We will also promote simple ways to raise further funds . Much of the funding raised over the twelve years has come from the efforts of individuals or groups who have found a wealth of imaginative ways to fundraise for the Unit, so we hope this will continue.

Our campaign by the charity is to provide the best there is for patients, so for anyone thinking of raising money for our Cancer Day Unit or who wants to organise an event can visit our Help Us To Raise Funds page where there are details of different ways you can help"
